Sometimes on Twitter we’ll call out folks who claim to know that “women aren’t wired for casual sex.” We don’t ever contradict them, but usually will just ask them how they know that to be true. If they’re a woman, are they just speaking for themselves personally? If they’re a man, is it because they “just know,” or it’s just “the truth”? Either way, they nearly never have any SCIENTIFIC proof that the female sex is any less into casual sex than males.

We, on, the other hand, now have an article we can link to show these self-proclaimed gender geniuses, that shows evidence from a recent study that shows women ARE interested in casual hook ups – as long as they feel safe from violence and judgement. In this study, the researchers re-created the well-known Clark & Hatfield study (which seemed to show 0% of women would say yes to random casual sex, while 75% of men would say yes), but with the added illusion that they’d be free from fear and the judgey eyes of their peers.

Participants were invited into a lab under the ruse that they would be helping a dating company evaluate their compatibility rating algorithm. They were presented with ten pictures of members of the opposite sex and led to believe that all ten had already agreed to meet up with them (either for a date, or for sex).

With these, and a few other convincing details, the experimenters hoped that participants would reveal their true attitudes to dating, or hooking up for sex with, total strangers, unimpeded by fear of what might happen to them if they said yes.

The results were dramatic. Now there was no difference between the dating and the casual sex scenarios, large proportions of both men and women leap at the chance to meet up with a stranger with the potential for sex – 100% of the men and 97% of the women in the study chose to meet up for a date or sex with at least one partner.

That’s right – almost every single woman asked said, “HEY WHY NOT LET’S F*CK!” to a hypothetical person they’d never met before. Seems to go against all the past ideas that women are demure and non-sexual and prudes, right?

So, we’ve said it once and we’ll say it again, guys – stop making women feel like sluts, and they’ll be far more interested in the fun casual sexy hookups you desire. This could change the whole dating game!
