Will Mark Zuckerberg’s Marriage Last?
You’ve probably heard the news that Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg married his long-term girlfriend Priscilla Chan last week. The internet has been abuzz with everything regarding the union, from how long they’ve been together, to how “small and cheap” the ring appeared, to, of course, racist Twitter comments about Priscilla’s ethnicity.
What we find interesting, though, is that the founder of Facebook is getting married at all, when a recent UK survey claims that his website has been cited in over a third of divorce proceedings. Not that we’re questioning Zuckerberg’s loyalty and honor (although I am still suspicious of his involvement with the Winklevoss brothers), but there have got to be women from all over the world using Facebook to try and find a man with the wealth and connections that a guy like Zuckerberg would have.
According to the legal website Divorce-Online, who ran the survey,
“If someone wants to have an affair or flirt with the opposite sex then Facebook is the easiest place to do it,” Divorce-Online spokesman Mark Keenan was quoted by the ‘Daily Mail’ as saying.
Incriminating status updates, suspicious check-ins at restaurants and inappropriate photographs being posted online were all increasingly being used as evidence in divorces.
“People need to be careful what they write on their walls as the courts are seeing these posts being used in financial disputes and children cases as evidence,” Keenan said.
We’re all guilty of using Facebook to flirt and connect with those from our past, but a marriage makes those harmless winks and “pokes” a little more questionable… it seems inevitable that Mark, the very life-blood of Facebook, has done the same. The question is, will his new marriage to his college sweetheart be enough to stop him from the tempting Facebook flirtation that we all love so much?
What do you think? Will Mark and Priscilla’s marriage last? Or could Facebook itself be the demise of their union? Let us know in the comments!
