Top 5 Moments of Coachella

This past weekend was a clusterf*ck of smelly hippies, wasted rich people pretending to be hippies, and disgusting porta-potty shenanigans, but Coachella Valley Music Festival is, at its core, about the music. So, what were the top 5 musical moments of Coachella? Let’s try and remember.
5. Justice: D.A.N.C.E:
This eight minute dance fest managed to save the Justice set (which started nearly 35 minutes late), and made the wait totally worthwhile. Deep bass, a massive crowd of people getting DOWN, and a mid-song explosion of contraband sparklers in the middle of the crowd? AWESOME.
4. Childish Gambino – Heartbeat
As expected, NBCs all star writer/actor/rapper/comedian was a massive hit despite being smack dab in the middle of the day. Unlike last year’s disaster Cee Lo Green, Donald Glover, AKA Childish Gambino, rocked the stage with song after song, especially this big hit:
3. The Rapture – How Deep is Your Love
I’d never heard of this group before Coachella, but after I was dragged by some friends who were fans to the Friday evening show, I learned why the crowd was so excited. The band was poppy, fun, exciting, and had a baritone sax. And their hit song “How Deep is Your Love” closed the show and got the whole crowd in a frenzy.
2. Swedish House Mafia – Save the World
As Coachella becomes less and less an indie rock show and more a desert rave, I tend to feel some irritation at the massive DJs that fill the biggest slots of the weekend. However, after partying too hard Thursday night, I was in dire need of a pick-me-up, and Swedish House Mafia’s laser-filled set was is exactly that. Especially this last song:
1. Every part of the Dr. Dre & Snoop Dogg set
Although I showed up with only a miniscule desire to see the 90s hip hop phenomenons, Snoop and Dre brought the energy level of the entire festival to impossible levels, especially considering their performance was the very last of the festival, and most patrons were exhausted, sunburned, and voiceless. After combing through the YouTube coverage of the show, I honestly couldn’t pick one song that was significantly better than the rest. So instead I chose a song that exemplifies the attitude of both the Coachella festival and OBC: Young, Wild and Free featuring Wiz Khalifa
