I am convinced that the marketers behind many of our favorite “As Seen on TV” products are much more self-aware than we think they are. The ad teams creating the commercials for Snuggie, the Sham Wow, and the Shake Weight probably aren’t oblivious, naive squares that believe they’re selling an incredible product… They’re probably genius execs who know that the American public responds to awkward fads and “ironic” products more than anything else, so they take a silly idea and run with it all the way to the bank.
So this video from a segment by Jimmy Kimmel, satirizing the newest infomercial product (the unbelievably phallic “Free Flexor”) might actually be free advertising for them. Kudos, you conniving little bastards!
