Surprising Stats About Online Dating in 2024
Now that we know that everyone (like seriously, everyone) is dating online these days, it’s time to dive into the important details! A new Forbes Health study revealed some surprising statistics about online dating, and we’re here to share em:
How Much Time Does It Take to Make a First Impression?
“Those surveyed were asked how long it takes them to scan another user’s profile on a dating app before determining whether they’re a match; less than 30 seconds, 31 to 60 seconds, one to two minutes, two to three minutes, three minutes, four to five minutes and more than five minutes.
The survey found the average amount of time it takes to decide whether to swipe right or left on a match is nearly two and a half minutes.“
Women Are More Likely to Share Screenshots of Their Matches’ Profiles With Friends
“Many dating app devotees may be reaching out to friends for their seal of approval on their latest crush, survey data suggests.
Survey results show that more than half (51%) of respondents admit to sharing screenshots of their matches with friends, while 49% claim they’ve never done so. This also proves to be a slightly more popular act among women, with 55% saying they’ve passed a screenshot of someone’s profile to a friend, compared to 44% of men.”
Biggest Dating Profile ‘Icks’
“Given that people have about two minutes to impress someone with their dating profile, what are the biggest “icks” to avoid? When asked which quality of a dating profile would make users more likely to choose not to match with a person, a whopping 70% of respondents pointed to negativity or bitterness in a profile bio being their biggest dealbreaker. This particular dating trait was the top ick for men (67%) and women (72%) respectively, and experts agree it’s one to avoid.
Flaunting material possessions and using altered or overly filtered photos also ranks in the top three red flags for both men and women, with 59% of men noting too much emphasis on material possessions as a reason they would not match with someone and 66% of women citing excessively edited images as an unappealing quality in a dating profile.”
