So Maybe ‘Hookup Culture’ Isn’t Really a Thing
It’s 2013. We have talked about booty calls and casual dating and “hookup culture” more times than we can count! And now, after all that, it turns out that all the studies might have been wrong, and people are just hooking up the same amount as they always have!
Via The Guardian:
“However, the very existence of the summer’s dubious “sex trend” is now being undermined. Sociologists have inconveniently found that today’s college students aren’t actually having any more sex than their predecessors, with only 32% saying that they had had more than one partner in the last year. Professor Monto of the University of Portland, Oregon said: “I was alive during the 1980s, and it doesn’t seem all that different.””
So, maybe people are hooking up the same amount today as their parents were a generation ago – it’s just more acceptable to talk about it now (although not enough to not shame sexually active women). The Guardian notes that a major difference of the last two generations is the prevalence of cell phones and texting, which make late night booty calls and juggling sexual partners way easier – no more calling someone’s house and PRAYING their mom doesn’t pick up.
Either way, we hope that the movement towards sexual acceptance continues. Just hopefully not led by fame whores.
