Online Dating and Race: A New Study
One of the things we pride ourselves on at OBC is our wide range of diversity – we’ve got single folks from just about every race and combination of races, all interacting with each other, chatting, and hooking up. We’d like to think our members are some of the most open-minded folks in the dating game, especially with this new study via the dating app AreYouInterested? showing how people respond to each other, according to race. Check out this chart:

“Unfortunately the data reveal winners and losers. All men except Asians preferred Asian women, while all except black women preferred white men. And both black men and black women got the lowest response rates for their respective genders.”
Talk about a crappy hand black folks are getting dealt in online dating huh? We have a black president, but single black daters are still getting shafted when it comes to responses (even black men are least likely to message black women – WTF?). With a very high black population on OBC, we’d be curious to know if the percentages are different on our site.
What do you think? Why are black singles the least likely to get responses – especially black women? Let us know in the comments!
