Man Assaults Ex For Not Liking His Status Update
Facebook has become the central hub of many peoples’ lives. Specifically my family that lives in the South. Boy do they love their Farmville and Pirate Wars and Mafia bullsh*t. And with the new Facebook feed, I can practically watch them waste their hours away commenting on photos and liking their own Nickleback-lyric status updates. So it’s fairly unsurprising to me that the following crime story happened to a Texan.
According to the Huffington Post, Texas man Benito Apolinar posted a status update commemorating the anniversary of his mother’s death. We can assume that many people “liked” the status as a show of support to their friend, but when his ex-wife, Dolores, failed to display her tiny thumbs up of appreciation, Benito became inconsolable. A fight broke out between the two, in which he hit his ex-wife and pulled her hair, thus scoring him an arrest for battery.
Look, I am guilty as anyone for feeling a sort of pride in my Facebook page. If a well-crafted joke in a status goes largely unnoticed, there is a sense of disappointment , because OBVIOUSLY, status updates are inherently narcissistic and show that we humans THRIVE on approval of others. But this case takes it a bit further, and I’m gonna have to use it as reason #3,940 not to get married: YOUR EX-HUSBAND MIGHT ASSAULT YOU OVER A FRIGGIN’ STATUS UPDATE.
TGIF, guys. It’s been a long week. Grab a beer, put on some sweatpants, and let’s call it a day.
