It’s Divorce Day.
Ah, a new year – an opportunity to give up old habits, get a fresh start, and… get divorced?
The first working Monday in January has long held the grim nickname of ‘Divorce Day’ – with January seeing a spike in breakups.
Michelle Smith, divorce financial analyst, told New York Daily News she typically sees an increase in marriage breakdowns around this time of year.
She said: ‘Divorce can often be on the New Year’s resolution list. You think, “What do I want from my life this year? I don’t want to be unhappy anymore.”‘
A study by Richard Nelson, compiled ahead of Divorce Day revealed searches for ‘DIY divorce’, ‘quickie divorce’ and ‘divorce my partner’ rose by over 100 per cent during the New Year.
