How To: Send a First Message
So you have your headline, your re-vamped profile, and your hot-as-fire profile picture, and you’re browsing the selection at OH I DON’T KNOW, OnlineBootyCall.com when you POW you spot the hottest little thang you ever did see. All you wanna do is set up a sweet booty call without having your message overlooked or under-appreciated. BUT HOW?!??!?
Here are BCU’s top 3 tips to sending a first message:
1. READ THE PERSON’S PROFILE FIRST
Make sure you know WHO you’re messaging before you even consider sending a message. Perhaps it’s a guy that looks like Orlando Bloom in his profile, but if you read further you’ll notice that photo was taken in 1988. And maybe that girl looks like someone who really knows how to pull out all the stops in bed until you realize she’s a pre-op who’s “looking to save up some cash for the big jump”. READ THE PROFILE BEFORE YOU SEND A MESSAGE. All horrible scenarios aside, you’re going to want to mention something other than their pleasant hip to waist ratio.
2. Be thorough BUT ALSO concise
Contradictory? Perhaps. Confusing? A little, I guess. But it’s one of the most important parts of the advice you’ll get here today. You’ll want to mention at least one thing from their profile, have a specific idea for a date, and be complimentary without being crass, AND SOMEHOW get this all into a short concise message. No one wants to read a wall of text. Consider this template:
Hey [user name] (or real name if its stated in their profile) –
Came across your profile and thought you sounded like an unusually AWESOME [guy or girl]. That part about you [something from their profile] could have come straight out of my own profile! Check out my profile and get back to me if you’re down to have a blast [grabbing a drink, meeting for lunch, etc] sometime soon. Oh, and did I mention that you are [gorgeous, REALLY good looking, unbelievably attractive]? Because you are.
Talk to you soon, [your name]
To the point, descriptive, and intriguing, without being cookie cutter or gross. A perfect message!
3. Proofread, proofread, proofread.
I know we said this in our post about fixing your profile, but it’s even more important here. If you have a few unedited typos in your About Me, a viewer might have your picture or other parts of your profile to save your case. However, in a message hock full of unreadable words, they’re more likely to yell, “NO THANK YOU” at the top of their lungs than proceed any further. So make sure you check any potentially misspelled words, make sure you have the right form of your, to, or there. Online dating is supposed to be for people over the age of eighteen, so try and type like it. Leave the U’s and R’s and B4’s for text messaging, got it? And PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF WAFFLES, don’t write one long unending sentence. Punctuation is your friend!
With these three tips you should be able to construct a great first message that will stand out from the dozens of crappy messages that are sent every day on dating sites. Combined with your profile, picture, and headline, you’ll be set up for the best (and easiest!) date or booty call of all time!
