Hot Mess (n): a derogatory term describing a situation, behavior, appearance, etc. that is disastrously bad. Think “faux pas” but times ten. Possible origin is literal (think, steaming dogpile). When ones thoughts or appearance are in a state of disarray but they maintain an undeniable attractiveness or beauty.

As you can see, the specifics necessary to be deemed a hot mess are very particular. One must still be deemed good looking or attractive, but must be behaving in a manner that causes ones pride to be forever destroyed. This woman, above, qualifies in all aspects. She seems to have a decent bod and fills out a bathing suit well, but by the power vested in YouTube, she will forever be known as “super f***ed up, embarrassingly bad pool dancer.”
