We hadn’t paid much attention to the recent “mommy-porn” book phenomenon, Fifty Shades of Grey, mostly because we are not mommies and our idea of porn probably would repulse most mothers. However, we may have to give the book and its author, E.L. James, a bit more credit, because according to one sex toy producer, the book has created a boom in sex toy sales – implying that women are becoming more open to different aspects of their sexuality. DING DING DING!

PinkCherry, a sex toy online store, claims that the sexy novel may be behind a recent influx in sales of S&M products: “The products that have specifically seen an increase, both in terms of searches on the website, as well as actual purchases, include nipple clamps, Ben Wa balls, and bondage items such as handcuffs, blindfolds and floggers.”

PinkCherry’s CEO, Daniel Freedman, believes the reason behind these purchases is that everyday women finally feel allowed to embrace a kinkier side of their sex lives, saying, “Fifty Shades of Grey has brought the world of sex toys to those who previously were unsure or unaware, it has awakened a whole new world for some people.”

While we probably still won’t rush order a copy of FSoG from Amazon, we do sent a little applause to its author. Anyone who helps women get in touch with their inner dirty diva is a winner in our book. Keep on readin’, ladies!
