Baldness Drug Linked to Sex Problems
What’s it gonna be, dudes? Hair or sex?
According to a report by the Boston Globe, you may now have to choose. Recent findings have shown evidence that the hair loss medication (and sometimes prostate medicine) Propecia may be linked to long term sexual deficiency and impotency. Aside from a finding by the Journal of Sexual Medicine which implied that upwards of 15% of male Propecia users experience problems ranging from ejaculatory issues and decreased libido, the Globe also reported
“…a case of a 24-year-old man who took the drug for male pattern baldness and then developed a total loss of sexual function that remained irreversible even after he stopped taking the drug and tried Viagra.”
YIKES.
Luckily, most of that earlier 15% was based on the older participants in the study that were taking the higher dosage of Propecia for prostate problems. Of those who were only taking a one milligram dose for thinning hair, on the other hand, only 1.9% of them experienced any sort of sexual dysfunction.
Still, with success rates of Propecia for hair loss prevention sitting at a rather unimpressive 50% or so, one might want to weigh the options about how much their hair really matters to them. You could be bald AND impotent. And like I said about that, YIKES.
