Adidas Pulls Shackle Shoes From Shelves
I guess technically these shoes never MADE it to the shelves, but you catch my drift. After Adidas shared the first glimpses of their new line of “JS Roundhouse Mids,” aka Shackle Shoes, the criticism began to pour in. According to Gawker, many took offense to the shoes for looking like a “slavery line” and “glamorizing criminal lifestyle.” And while at first we thought it was just the American people being too damn sensitive again, then we got a look at the kicks ourselves:
Yeeeeeah, we might be able to see why people would get a little offended. After attempting to defend the shoes, saying they were “nothing more than the designer Jeremy Scott’s outrageous and unique take on fashion,” it’s no surprise that soon after Adidas released an official statement saying they were “withdrawing plans to make them available in the marketplace.” Or in other words, OUR BAD.
More importantly than making light of slavery or “glamorizing the criminal lifestyle,” though*, is just how DAMN UGLY THOSE THINGS ARE. For the love of GOD, how does one even wear those? Shackle over or under the jeans? Or do you wear them with shorts? What about socks? I imagine that shackle wouldn’t be too comfy over your bare ankles. SOMEONE EXPLAIN THESE TO ME.
*Not really.

Note to Editor: I cannot imagine how they’re supposed to be worn, but I bet they wouldn’t be ‘uncomfortable’ to those used to wearing Ankle Bracelets. ?
