Is Social Networking Ruining Sex?
Oh, GREAT. Our Facebook addictions might be even worse than I thought – it could be ruining our sex drives. According to a recent article in the Observer, young partiers in New York City are tending to care more about social networking during their high-profile nights out than having sex! The author tells a story about a party that ended at 10 am, and despite the hours of drinking partying, everyone left solo.
According to the author, our generation is less sex-obsessed and more “self-obsessed.” We care more about how we look and who’s watching and what we’ll look like on Facebook the next day than we do about getting into bed. TALK ABOUT DEPRESSING. The author continues, saying that cocaine and careers also make sex less of a priority, but that the main issue is just how well connected everyone is. Especially in New York.
“New York is too dense; you’re running into people all the time, everyone knows everyone,” said a male consultant in his mid-20s. “Sex just doesn’t make sense—it’s dirty.”
A MALE? I was shocked to read this. Maybe I could understand if women were losing libido at the thought of looking like a floozy in a group where everyone knows everyone, but men? That’s unsettling.
So are we doomed to celibate lives of getting dressed up to appease no one other than our Facebook feeds? Not so, says the author.
“Being naked, warm and squirming with someone in a bed has nothing to do with the Internet,” her Gmail chat message read. “Never has, never will!”
Well now… we don’t know about that ;).

I think it’s the fact that we’re more connected that sex gets lost in the equation sometimes. It’s like back in the day you had to call a landline, ask the dad for her then hope she’s home. Now we can get a hold of anyone nearly anytime. Takes some of the mystery out of it all.
