Singles Week Day 4: Culture Night
I hope everyone has brought out their disaster supplies, including canned goods and water bottles and InTouch magazines because
FACEBOOK IS DOWN.
Everyone calm down, it’s going to be okay. Stop mashing refresh because all you’re doing is causing an unnecessary panic for you and everyone around you. For now, let’s stop thinking about it. I understand that this feels like the beginning of the ten Plagues of Egypt, but rest assured no one’s going to develop boils and the only infestation going on is that disgusting bed bug issue in New York. What’s the worst that could happen? Facebook could be gone forever and you’d be stuck actually doing work and not stalking your ex from high school? Boo hoo. Stop crying and try out this great Singles Week idea:
Today’s Tip:
Culture Night!
Whether or not you’ve actually traveled out of the country, culture nights are a super fun time to spend with friends, drink some beverages, and learn how to cook something other than Top Ramen in the microwave (or right out of the bag– I’ve seen you do it). All you need is a group of friends, a designated night of the week, a NetFlix account, and a willingness to try new things! Oh, also probably some cash for food and drinks.
First, come to a consensus on a country’s food you’d like to try. I think the easiest country to start with is Germany, because really all it involves is sausage and beer, and who doesn’t like sausage and beer other than terrible human beings, right?
You’ll want to designate half the group to bring drinks and half to make food (this should be rotated among the group, no one wants to be the kitch-b*tch every week). Find some great-sounding recipes from Epicurious (like this one for your Germany night) and choose some interesting drinks from that culture (Spaten Oktoberfest, for example). Lastly, order a movie from NetFlix that takes place in the country of the week (Beerfest, in this case), and gather all your friends for a fun time gettin’ tipsy and trying new foods. There is no way anyone can not have a good time, unless someone has a gluten intolerance that’s not taken into consideration and 30 minutes into the movie you have to take them to the emergency room.
Other great countries to try: France, Brazil, Russia (mmm, martinis!), or Puerto Rico!
