What To Watch this Fall Season
The only good thing that comes out of a crappy summer (or lack there of) is the happiness you draw from Fall television coming back and making it okay to sit on your couch for hours at a time. This year is no exception… here are BCU’s top 5 picks to watch this fall.
1) It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia (FX — starts this Thursday at 10pm)
This show will always be a BCU favorite due to its no-holds-barred comedy and the superior acting chops by all actors. Seriously, if you think South Park is politically incorrect, this show is just flat out politically wrong, in all the best ways. This season starts with an episode called “Mac Fights Gay Marriage,” so you know it’s going to be chock full of hilarious one-liners and enough awkward moments to make even Larry David squeamish.
2) The League ( FX — this Thursday at 10:30pm)
Directly following IASIP comes the second season of the grossly under-appreciated sitcom The League, which follows a group of friends, their families, and their Fantasy Football league. People actually participating in a league this Fall will get the most laughs, as the show perfectly depicts the constant struggle between friendship, relationships, and the fantasy football leagues that threaten to destroy them both. Don’t miss this.
3) Modern Family (ABC, starting September 22nd at 9pm)
Definitely the tamer of the shows on this list, Modern Family is nonetheless as fun to watch as the raunchier shows we’ve chosen. With its perfect ten cast and hilarious depiction of family life, we can’t stop watching. Best characters? Ty Burrell’s Phil Dunphy, clueless dad trying to fit in with his kids, and the duo of Eric Stonestreet and Jesse Tyler Ferguson as Cameron and Mitchell, a gay couple who have just adopted a Korean baby. Nonstop laughs will ensue, guaranteed.
4) 30 Rock (NBC, starting September 23rd at 8:30pm)
With the introduction of Matt Damon at the end of last season as Carol the pilot, we can not wait to see the direction this great comedy goes. Is Jack going to be a father? Is Kenneth really fired? Are Tina and Carol going to be together?! SO MANY QUESTIONS.
5) Running Wilde (Fox, starting Sept. 21 at 9:30 p.m.)
This show is the biggest risk of the season… created by Arrested Development creator Mitchell Hurwitz, we can only cross our fingers that the show will be even a tenth of the funny that AD was. And considering it starts my two favorite AD actors — David Cross and Will Arnett, I feel like we might have a good shot. However, it is Fox, and it also stars that girl from Felicity (Keri Russell) so there is always the chance that it will stumble over itself into a pit of Two and Half Men-like crappiness. Everyone cross your fingers NOW.
