Astronomers Discover 10 Billion Trillion Trillion Carat Diamond in Space
Somewhere, Elizabeth Taylor’s ears are ringing and she’s experiencing withdrawal-like symptoms because there is a diamond in the universe that she does not own yet, and it just happens to be floating about 50 light years away from Earth. “Lucy,” as scientists have named it, is a 4,000 km wide white dwarf, the shrunken remains of a star that was once bright like our sun but is now the “hot core of a star, left over after the star uses up its nuclear fuel and dies.”
I give it… oh, I don’t know, 5 years? before Richard Branson takes his personal rocket and jets all the world’s biggest diamond hoarders into space and start pick-axing this thing.
