Why is Gen Z Having Less Sex?
In a world where shows and movies like Sex Education, Bridgerton, and 365 Days, you might be surprised to know that our newest adults actually aren’t bangin’ as much as their on-screen peers are!
Recently, studies have shown that “Gen Zers between the age of 20 and 24 were more likely than both millennials and Gen Xers to report having had no sexual partners. 15 percent said they were sexually inactive, compared with only 6 percent of Gen Xers when they were the same age.”
So, why are Gen Zers not hooking up as much? One sex therapist over on BuzzFeed has a few hypotheses:
Part of it is that adulthood, when we’re getting into that stage, it’s been delayed for our generations. Because when you think about sex, it’s not just the behavior, but it’s also about dating, moving out of your parents’ house, cohabitating with a partner, or getting married. And a lot of those situations are being delayed in our generations.
And another reason is because of advancement in technology and that we have access to dating apps and easier ways to access porn. So a lot of times it’s a bit more convenient to be in the comfort of your own house and sexting your phone, as opposed to actually meeting up with people face-to-face. And then again with the access to porn, more people are seeking that out now, and more people are actually staying at home and masturbating as opposed to having partnered sex.
Well, while we totally understand the first part, we gotta say we don’t get the second – while it might be more CONVENIENT to stay home and jerk it, it’s certainly not more fun. We imagine these people just need to work on finding the right person and being open with what makes them get to the finish line!
