Don’t Get Caught “Wokefishing”
We all know what Catfishing is – using photos that aren’t yours to pretend you are younger, thinner, or more attractive than you really are to TRICK someone you met online into going on a date with you. But apparently in this new age, there’s a new type of shadiness in the single world: Wokefishing.
Here’s how Vice explained it: “People masquerade as holding progressive political views to ensnare potential partners.”
- Wokefish can pretend to be “protest-attending or “anti-racist,” according to Vice. They may appear to be a person “who drinks ethically sourced oat milk and has read the back catalogue of Audre Lorde, twice.”
“Couple this with the apparent nationwide divide over issues ranging from George Floyd’s death to wearing coronavirus masks, and you’ve got the ideal environment for the wokefish to thrive,” the New York Post reports.
Hey, you don’t have to pretend to be someone you’re not just to get a date – in fact why not leave politics out of your hook ups entirely? That’s what we say!
