Hilariously Bad Dating Advice
It is part of our job at BCU to keep a close eye on the competition. For the most part we end up just giggling in our cubicles at some of the ridiculous advice other dating blogs give out, but in a recent viewing of BlackPeopleMeet.com’s blog, we came across a genuinely hilarious article about how to meet men in a grocery store. (Reminds us a little bit of the OBC commercials!)
According to BPM, there a few tips that ensure you’ll find a great guy while shopping for dinner. Here are some that really made us laugh.
1. “Dress it up!”
BPM is right about one thing. Fluorescent lighting in grocery stores is totally unforgiving. However, their advice to “dress up your best assets” is a little much. If you are at the point where you’re hunting for men at Vons, we’re guessing a sexy outfit, paired with your haunting, lonely eyes, is probably just going to scream DESPERATE.
2. “Become a regular”
Here, BPM compares visiting the same grocery store every week to being a regular at a bar. “The clerks might hook you up with great deals” made us laugh out loud, because No, they won’t. Sure, that 16-year-old kid might not charge you for a tub of Haagen Dazs, but that’s probably because he’s stoned and hates his job, not cause he appreciates your patronage.
3. “Steer your own cart”
Our favorite little gem came from this tip: “ask a cute stranger how to tell if a peach is ripe!” We’re not sure if this is supposed to be a genuine call for help or some creepy pick-up line, but either way, we’re opposed. That one-liner is either going to result in a very public fondling, or him thinking you’re mentally challenged.
4. Be a Spy!
This is where the advice gets a little out of hand. BPM suggests you look in guys carts, and if there happens to be liquor, ice, and cups (sure signs of a party!) to slyly ask if he has something planned. You heard right, they are basically saying for women to INVITE THEMSELVES TO STRANGERS’ HOUSES. I’m sure nothing terrible could come out of this well-thought-out plan!
The BlackPeopleMeet online mag is usually a great source for dating advice and helpful hints. However, they might want to thinking about steering clear of anymore grocery-store-flirting tips!
