Obviously, we’re always pro-casual sex. In our experience, when done safely and smartly, booty calls and friends with benefits relationships are fun, sexy (obviously), and a great way to engage in the human experience without having to tie yourself down in a long-term relationship. Of course, this may not be the case for everyone, and we’d be remiss to suggest so. On the other hand, it would also be wrong to suggest that casual sex is bad for everyone – when clearly there is a large segment of the population that is totally down with some no-strings-atttached booty.

We’ve got some backup on this topic in the form of a recent study that has shown that casual sex is A-OK for many people. From the study titled “Who Benefits From Casual Sex? The Moderating Role of Sociosexuality,” via Jezebel:

When it came to those who were sociosexually unrestricted, having casual sex was associated with higher self-esteem and life satisfaction and lower depression and anxiety. “Typically, sociosexually unrestricted individuals (i.e., those highly oriented toward casual sex) reported lower distress and higher thriving following casual sex, suggesting that high sociosexuality may both buffer against any potentially harmful consequences of casual sex and allow access to its potential benefits,” the researchers write.
