Brazil Scores First Goal of World Cup… On Themselves.
The World Cup started yesterday, and we were super excited to catch a glimpse of the first game – host team Brazil vs Croatia. However, our excitement turned to fear and shock when Brazilian Marcelo Vieira da Silva Júnior accidentally booted in the first goal of the World Cup – to score for Croatia.
The look on Marcelo’s face basically mirrored ours as we looked around in disbelief – and worried if Marcelo would be killed DURING or immediately AFTER the game. South Americans take their fútbol seriously, like, SERIOUSLY SERIOUSLY, and this World Cup is already mired in anger over the the whole World-Cup-in-a-politically-and-economically-unstable-country thing.
Luckily, Brazil went on to win against Croatia 3 – 1, but we’re still not sure Marcelo is going to make it to her next game against Mexico on Tuesday. We’ll keep our fingers crossed for him, but hey, Marcelo – you might want to go into hiding soon.
