Woman Sues Georgia City for Anti-Sex Toy Law
Ugh. Monday. We’re slowly dusting off the weekend and getting back into the groove of the work week, how about you?
One way we like to jump start the week is with a little dose of self-love. You know, like greasing the pipe, or slamming the clam, maybe with the assistance of a little battery-powered friend. Apparently though, if you happen to be a resident of Sandy Springs, Georgia, it’s actually ILLEGAL to own a sex toy, unless you have a “prescription” (“Doctor, I need to refill my prescription for disposable pocket-p*ssies”).
One woman, though, who suffers from multiple sclerosis, which has caused a loss of sexual arousal, is determined to get that stupid, archaic law turned over. She found that after her MS diagnosis, sex toys were the only way she and her husband could rekindle their sex life. Unfortunately, no doctor will prescriber her a sex toy, so she had to go about purchasing toys by other means – and now she wants to make sure no other people have to suffer the consequences of one of the dumbest laws I’ve ever heard of, by suing the city for the right to buy whatever sexual aids one wants (seriously, I’d GTFO of that town if they told me I couldn’t have my flash drive/vibrator).
Via New York Daily News:
[Melissa Davenport] is suing her city over an ordinance that bans her from buying sex toys.
“They have this dirty mind about how people are going to use it,” Davenport says. “People really do need devices because they need it for health reasons and to have a healthy intimate life with their spouse.”
Gerry Weber, the attorney filing the lawsuit, says the ordinance violates citizens’ right to privacy.
“People have the right to decide for themselves whether these devices help their intimate life, and the government has no business being (in) the bedroom and second guessing that decision.”
We applaud Melissa for standing up for people who want to explore their sexuality. Good luck, woman – we’re rooting for you!
