Naked Yoga Studio Opens in New York
Good morning and Happy Monday!
How is your Spring bod doing? Feeling slim and healthy? Ready to hit the beach during Spring Break? Or just feeling sluggish, chubby, and pale as the South Pole snow? Well, it’s time to get your ass in gear and start to drop that winter weight, whether it’s by using that gym membership you’ve been ignoring for 5 months or ridding your fridge of Celeste pizzas.
One method of weight loss that I don’t know if we can suggest is naked yoga, but that doesn’t mean a studio in New York isn’t offering it! Co-founders Joschi Schwarz and Monika Werner created “Bold and Naked” Yoga which is a practice based on the ” being in tune with positive feelings about your body.”
Via BuzzFeed:
“Part of yoga is to honour and connect with your body. Practicing yoga naked frees you from negative feelings about your body and allows to to be more accepting and deeper connected with yourself and the world around you.”
The instructors emphasize that being naked is “about finding the strength to expose your vulnerability and connect to yourself and others on the deepest level”.
There is no sexual element to the class.
The guidelines state that “sometimes teachers will incorporate partner work into their classes that involves touching and body contact between members. However, this is not to be ‘sexual touching’ and should any contact of sexual nature occur, it will not be tolerated and will result in the offending member being asked to leave. Anyone who has been asked to leave will not be allowed back to attend classes in the future.”
Although normal bodily functions are embraced.
In the FAQ, the issue of erections arises. “It rarely happens, but when it does it’s okay and nothing to be embarrassed about. It will pass quickly. Erections happen for a lot of reasons and are not limited to sexual attraction. Yoga moves a lot of energy throughout the body and sometimes erections happen. But once we start moving, there is no way an erection could be sustained, because of the physical nature of Vinyasa Yoga.”
As a yoga fan, the idea of truly “connecting with your body” seems like a great goal. However, being a foot away from a dude’s naked taint in downward facing dog doesn’t just scream “relaxation and connection on the deepest level.” It screams “GET ME OUT OF HERE SWEET JESUS THIS IS A NIGHTMARE.”
