What is Your Dating Hang Up?
why the long face?
After last month’s Sexy Summer Slim Down series, we realized that even more important than getting your body in prime dating shape, is getting your mind in prime dating shape. Just as a 6-months-preggers-except-nope-I’m-not tummy can ruin your chances with a sexy single, so can having an unfit, not-so-healthy dating attitude. So before we start this month’s “Dating IQ” series, we thought we’d ask you: what is YOUR dating hang up?
Are you…
1. Impatient Ian or Isabell
You have a busy life. Between work, friends, family, and other commitments, you don’t have much time for dating. So when you’re unsuccessful on a night out – or if you don’t get any responses during your first weeks on a dating site, you get irritated and figure you might as well quit.
2. Awkward Allen or Amy
You really want to get out there and meet someone, whether it’s a casual hook up or a long term relationship. Your problem is you aren’t comfortable talking to strangers. You get withdrawn and your normally fun and social demeanor is lost in your nervousness. You can’t find it in yourself to strike up conversation, even if you’re super interested in someone. Even online, you get anxious sending someone a message.
3. Overbearing Owen or Olivia
Although you have great relationships with friends and family, people say that you come on too strong and seem obnoxious with people you’re interested in. You’re not sure if you’re over-compensating for being nervous or if you just aren’t skilled at the art of “speak less, say more” but man you need help – you’re always scaring the ladies or gents away!
4. Clingy Chris or Carrie
Maybe it was that first break up that messed with your self-confidence. Maybe it’s your fear that you’ll never start a family. Or maybe you just have little experience in dating that makes you tend to latch on to anyone who shows interest. This trait can make potential dates cut and run – even if you may have had a great future together.
5. Pompous Paul or Patty
You’ve actually never really had too much trouble hooking up with whoever you’d like, but you’re starting to gain a reputation of being a little conceited, arrogant, and insensitive. You don’t like the way people look at you like a user, and you really never sought out to be a jerk, but admittedly, you’ve made the rounds, and have no problem throwing dates to the curb when something better comes around. Now, that’s starting to bite you in the a-s-s.
If you fit one of those categories – never fear! We’ll be spending this month giving our readers tips as to how to upkeep and re-evaluate their dating personalities. With any luck, by the end of June you’ll be not only healthy and fit, but mentally ready to take on the dating world. Class is in session!
