Charles Ramsey Wins the Internet
Yesterday, three Cleveland women and a fourth 6-year-old girl were rescued from a house in which they had been kept captive for the past DECADE. Not many details have been released, but what is known is that Amanda Berry, Gina deJesus, and Michelle Knight, as well as a daughter that Amanda had while captive are now free from the basement of a home in Cleveland where they’d been since being abducted way back in 2000, 2003, and 2004, respectively. The owner of the home, 52-year-old Ariel Castro, as well as his two brothers, have been taken into custody after having kept three girls as their prisoners (and likely sex slaves), and are being questioned as we speak.
Worse, Amanda Berry’s mother, who spent three years after her daughter’s abduction searching for the truth, died of what people are calling “a broken heart,” as in she was so filled with grief she couldn’t imagine carrying on. So Miss Berry is returning to a life where she’ll soon learn her mother passed away awash in sadness.
I’m pretty sure this story is a sign that the world as we know it is coming to a swift and painful end.
However, there is a positive light – the women are free and will start to rebuild their lives as new women. Plus, we got a great video of Charles Ramsey, the kidnappers’ neighbor, who helped rescue the young women, and it is pretty great. Congratulations Mr. Ramsey, you are the internet’s newest hero. Pack your bags, the train to famedom leaves in 5 (and then returns ten minutes later).
