New Film Gets Young Women To Talk About Sex!
MOVIN’ ON UP IN THE WORLD, AMERICA!
Although we’ve often talked about how America is behind the times in terms of being open about sexuality and sexual desire, there are those who are doing their best to turn that unfortunate truth upside down. Nationwide groups like Planned Parenthood, who provide low-cost and free family planning for low-income Americans, for example, are trying to create an open dialogue about sex, so that people feel free to ask questions and consequently become more educated about their bodies, their sexuality, and practicing safe sex. In a nation where 26 of 50 states require that abstinence be taught as the main method of pregnancy prevention (unsurprisingly, those states rank highest in teen pregnancies), it’s clear that we need to revamp our national attitude towards sex, especially for young women who are often led to believe that their own sexual desires are dirty and should be contained.
It’s refreshing, then, to hear about a new documentary called Subjectified, that features interviews from nine women, all of different backgrounds and lifestyles, in which they are asked about “sex, body image, childbirth, and much more.” In this clip, they talk about the big M and the Big O, masturbation and orgasms, and although we’re used to hearing about men and their adventures in jerkin’ it, these women are open, honest, and candid about their history and tendencies towards self pleasure. It’s one small step for the birds and the bees, one GIANT LEAP for American-womankind!
