UnDating Advice for the Weekend Ahead!
TGIF, everyone! The weekend is here, but before we leave, we’d like to give you some last-minute weekend UnDating advice, following our Tuesday Dos and Wednesday Don’ts. As you adventure away from the cubicle (or your mom’s basement, no judgments) for the weekend to get your party on, you might forget about some of the tips we’ve shared with you this week. So, we’ve compiled a few questions to ask yourself as the weekend goes on, to keep you on the smart path. Let’s begin, shall we?
It’s Friday night. You’re about to leave the house. Ask yourself:
How do I look?
Sure, it’s all about what’s “on the inside.” But unfortunately we live in 2012, and first impressions are important. So hit the gym, take off that bedazzled shirt (unless you are in New Jersey, I guess), check for unnecessary wrinklage, shave that neckbeard, pull a comb through your hair and brush your teeth, and put on a smile. Ladies, ask yourself if you’re kidding yourself with that dress. Basically, “be the hotness you want to see in the world” -Gandhi (slightly paraphrased).
Who am I going out with?
People judge you by the company you keep … you’re only as strong as your weakest link… there’s a reason so many old adages talk about not just you, but the people around you. Your friends are your friends for a reason, but sometimes it’s important to take a step back and see how your friend group might appear from the outside. Are they all fun-loving, kind, casual, and polite (without being stuffy)? Or are they obnoxiously loud, rude, condescending and chauvinistic (or bitchy)? Sometimes it’s time to call up old friends or even go out with just one friend and meet new people. Even if your mission is to find a sexy single to bring home, there’s a good chance your friend group is walking babe-repellent.
How can I make this night the best night ever?
We tend to treat our weekends as though they are unlimited, when in reality life is short, and each one is a gift. Instead of going through the motions and tossing back shots with no other mission than to get drunk and have sex, take the time to savor every moment. Take pictures, enjoy spending time with your friends, meet new people, try new things (no, I’m not talking about meth), and while having fun, don’t go overboard and make mistakes you’ll regret in the morning. And if you meet some sweet thang and spend a night getting frisky, all the better. Have fun, be nice, and be present. Yes, I might sound like a yoga instructor, but whether you’re meditating or dancing the night away at a dark nightclub, it’s always important to appreciate what you’ve got.
See you Monday, Weekend Warriors!
