Dating Site Raffles off Free Divorce
The team at OBC is quite open about our stance on marriage: yeah, it’s for some people, but for many it ends up being a big, irreparable mistake that destroys them emotionally (not to mention their wallets). However, we have members who find love (and marriage) on our site, so we’re not huge fans of websites that rely on ruining peoples’ marriages (you know, like this one).
So you can imagine the face we made (think this, with a little dash of this) when we heard that a UK “dating” website was planning to give away a “free divorce” to one of its members.
Via TheDailyMail:
One cheating website has decided to take advantage of couples at their lowest ebb by attempting to recruit new members with the launch of a crass Win A Divorce competition.
Visitors to Maritalaffair.co.uk are required to enter their email address to be in with a chance of winning a monetary prize of £1,800 towards legal fees involved in a divorce.
The competition was launched following the most recent figures from the Office of National Statistics, showing divorce rates increased 4.9 per cent in 12 months – the first rise in divorce rates in eight years.
Eeesh. Even Team OBC, who shouts “MARRIAGE CAN WAIT!” from the rooftops, can see that a contest like this is totally inappropriate and heartless and kind of evil. Divorce is often an unfortunate necessity, but imagine the pain you’d feel if your spouse told you he WON A DIVORCE from you on a website dedicated to people CHEATING ON THEIR SPOUSES. Good GOD.
