RIP Whitney Houston
The world found out on Saturday that 90s singing sensation Whitney Houston had passed away in her Beverly Hills hotel room. Reports claim she was found in the bathtub and that there were prescription bottles around her, although no official autopsy has not been released. The music world is stunned, as Whitney was one of the most talented singers of the century, and maybe even of all time.
It was quite the coincidence that the biggest music award show of the year, The Grammys, fell last night, and was chock full of moments dedicated to the troubled singer. Dreamgirls star Jennifer Hudson performed a tribute with a rendition of Whitney’s hit I Will Always Love You, and E! News claims there was a bit of a somber air around the entire night.
Whether a person is a famous singer or a n average Joe in middle America, a teenager or a woman in her 40s, and whether that person had a perfect life or a troubled one full of mistakes, a life lost to addiction is heartbreakingly sad. And although we can’t be positive if Whitney went the same direction as fellow singer Amy Winehouse, it’s quite likely that drugs or alcohol contributed.
RIP Whitney Houston. A beautiful voice silenced too early.
And now, to help us laugh again, here’s Maya Rudolph doing a hilarious rendition of Whitney on SNL. We’re sure the Diva would have loved this too.
