Lamar Odom Traded to the Mavericks
It looks like Lamar Odom has an answer to his Tweeted question, “When a team trades u and it doesn’t go down? Now what?” and the answer is “head to Dallas, cowpoke.” According to ESPN, Odom has been traded to the Dallas Mavericks for an $8.9 million trade exception and a protected first round pick.
The overwhelming feeling in Los Angeles seems to be one of disappointment surrounding the trade, as everyone from Odom himself, to Kobe Bryant and Derek Fisher has expressed nothing but negative feelings about losing their star forward. Bryant said of the trade, “It’s hard when you’ve been through so many battles with players to just see them go somewhere else. It’s tough,” and Fisher agreed, saying, “I’m very disappointed and frustrated for (Odom). If I had my choice, Lamar would be a Laker for life.” Furthermore, Odom himself was quoted saying, “You don’t want to go to no place you’re not wanted.”
However, it seems as though the Mavs are excited to have Odom as their forward in the coming year. Coache Rick Carlisle says, “Lamar Odom is a guy we have great respect for as a person and as an all-around player in this league. We feel he’s going to add so many different dimensions for us — length, playmaking, scoring, experience, championship experience.”
We with Lamar Odom and the rest of his new team (and the old one!) good luck in the coming season, and are thankful to have the NBA back in full swing after so many months of uncertainty.
