Reality Star Suing MTV For Sexual Assault… With a Toothbrush
No, that wasn’t a typo – Real World: Chicago star Tonya Cooley is suing MTV, its parent company, and two of her fellow castmates for allegedly sexually assaulting her with a toothbrush while she was passed out. According to TMZ, her castmates Kenny Santucci and Evan Starkman “rubbed [a fellow male cast member’s] toothbrush around plaintiff’s genitals, including rubbing her labia and inserting the toothbrush into plaintiff’s vagina.” She claims MTV was fully aware of the incident, and that cameras were rolling throughout the event.
Furthermore, Cooley says that MTV encouraged male cast members to “inappropriately touch female cast members’ bodies, including inĀ intimateĀ areas.”
Honestly, I’m more surprised that a case like this hasn’t happened before. I just assumed that once you signed on for an MTV reality show you signed away your human rights for the privilege of being famous for no reason, you know, like selling your soul to the devil.
If Cooley was really assaulted by her roommates and MTV was aware of the situation, I hope she is compensated to the fullest extent. At the same time, I hope she learns not to sign on to any more reality shows where boozing and sex are the only two requirements.
