I always feel bad when I’m writing a snarky anti-marriage article and it comes to my attention that there are allegations of abuse in the story. Whether or not I think marriage is a death trap has nothing to do with domestic abuse being completely horrific for anyone in the situation, especially when there are children involved. But STILL, check this one out.

According to Florida Today, Jennifer Lynn Hearne of Melbourne, Australia is being charged with murder after shooting her husband to death and then hiding his body under a hog pen in their backyard for weeks, until a tip lead police to the grave. Sources say that while there were rumors of drug use and domestic abuse within the family, the police had never been called to the residence and there was no past of crimes at the household.

Hearn claimed that her husband had walked out on her for the last time to live with a girlfriend, even posting on Facebook, “I love being single.” Hearn must have confided in the wrong person about the truth, though, because eventually police headed over to the household, dug up the body, and learned that she had in fact shot him to death weeks earlier and hid his body in the dead of night.

In the best case scenario Jennifer Lynn Hearne went off the deep end and ended a plain old argument with a shot gun, and will now spend many years (if not the rest of her life) in prison… but worst case, she endured years of domestic abuse which culminated in her defending herself and mistakenly murdering her husband. It’s all horrible and sad and depressing, but I think it teaches us something. Reason #1,705 not to get married: you might end up as PIG’S FOOD.
