The Mayweather Knockout Controversy
Last night’s exciting boxing match between Victor Ortiz and Floyd Mayweather Jr. ended as most people expected: with Ortiz getting knocked-the-f***-out by Mayweather. No shocker there. However, the way that it went down has been causing a bit of a stir among fans.
According to The Root, Mayweather may have sucker punched Ortiz as he attempted to apologize for an intentional headbutt. Now, the key word there is intentional, so perhaps Mayweather was right to knock him out when he had the chance. Via The Root:
Some believe the boxing champion sucker punched Ortiz while others feel that Ortiz got what he deserved after a hard headbutt given to Mayweather, Jr. earlier in the round that cost Ortiz one point. Some have even called for a rematch, which is not going to happen.
We tried to scoop up a video so you could be the judge, but it looks like HBO has gotten them all taken down for copyright violations. It’s all hearsay now, but we can at least be sure that Ortiz got schooled. Up next for Mayweather? The Root hopes for Manny Pacquiao. Now THAT is something I’d pay to see.
Did you see the fight? What did you think? Was it a sucker punch or did Ortiz deserve the blow?
