I recently watched an episode of Anthony Bourdain’s ‘No Reservations’ show where he talked about “going bamboo,” or vacationing to a country so amazing that you end up staying forever. This usually happens in tropical paradises like Indonesia or Vietnam, but I could see myself “going bamboo” in Norway after seeing these two dueling news stories.

The hilarious parody music video below is apparently used as sex education in the European country, and is honest, funny, informative, and open – all things Americans tend to lack when it comes to sex. While one of our largest states teaches abstinence only in high school (and oddly enough has the highest teen pregnancy rate), Norway is featuring real educational videos that even kept no-attention-span-me entertained for the full 3 minutes.

And now it’s America’s turn. Brace yourself, this is an embarrassing one.

Remember the New Mexico cop who was caught having sex on the hood of his car? We discussed the transgression here and contemplated how terrible the action really was (answer: not that terrible). However, after the local news “investigated” and “tried to get to the bottom of the story” and “demanded action be taken,” it seems as the though the state trooper has been fired. According to KOB.com, the state trooper “was named the 2009 District 1 state police officer of the year and was honored for going above and beyond the call of duty in July,” but that was not enough to save him from his hood-of-the-car humping.

Sure, he messed up. Yes, he may have been abusing his power. But let’s go ahead and remember that in the past, cops around the nation have tazered people to death, nearly beat a man to death, shot a woman’s dog in front of her face, forced young girls to give them oral sex, and confiscated cameras from people recording them harassing and beating homeless people, AND HAVE NOT BEEN FIRED.

But getting some nookie while on the clock? Hand over your badge, empty your desk, get out of here. Just another reminder that America is still a Puritanical (and yet unbelievably hypocritical) nation that sells sex but then shames those who buy it.

Pack your bags, boys, we’re moving to Norway.
