5 Things You Could Buy For the Price of This Car
It should be noted prior to this post that I drive what some might call a “piece of sh*t” car. It blew a cylinder so it now only goes about 45 on the freeway and it has those automatic seatbelts that always feel like they might decapitate you. So my understanding of cars is “wheels and go fast to place.”
That being said, the 1931 Duesenberg J Coupe Murphy 02 above is officially the most sickeningly expensive American car sold at auction ever, bringing in $10.34 MILLION dollars at auction last weekend. According to Jalopnik, its owner, playboy George Whittell Jr. “more than doubled the previous record Duesenberg sale ($4.455 million in 2004).”
Ten point three four million dollars, you guys. So, to put that in perspective, you could buy:
34 brand new Cessna 172 Seahawks
Both Fox Island AND Eagle Island off the coast of British Columbia
This fifteenth century castle in France
470 very sensible Toyota Camrys
There you have it. 5 things that I would purchase before I dropped ten mill on a car that looks like it came out of Gone With the Wind. But hey, I drive a cardboard box with wheels, so what do I know?
