Women Are Drinking Horse Semen Now
I remember a few years ago when I was watching “Rich Girls” (one of those first reality shows that celebrated the copious wealth and selfishness of the privileged few in America) and one of the stars excitedly shared about how her mom and dad use a cream on their eyes made of the foreskin cut from newborn babies. I was 13 or so at the time, so all I could think was “yucky! Penises! EW,” but of course now I imagine that if someone gave me a free tub of the stuff I’d apply it to my whole body like a cocoon every night if it meant it would slow the wrinkling process. Still, though, it’s funny to laugh at the way extremely wealthy people will shell out cash for products that, if they were cheaper, would be repulsive and shameful and creepy (see: monkey poop coffee).
So of course, we have to laugh (after vomiting) about this story out of New Zealand which features a headline stating “Women flock to take horse-semen shots” …and the story is just as it sounds. According to the story, New Zealand restaurant the Green Man Pub is serving a beverage of Hoihoi tatea, or horse semen, alongside a meal of seared Asian duck and pork and paua spring rolls, and the women LOVE IT*. The strange concoction is a part of the pub’s entry into the 14th annual Monteith’s Beer & Wild Food Challenge, and if you ask me, they’ve got to be a shoo-in for the win.
According to those who have downed the Hoihoi Tatea, or should I say HORSE SEMEN, it tastes “like custard.” That image in my mind is enough to make me feel nauseous, but I felt even more sick to my stomach when I found out the price the restaurant was paying for this ridiculous beverage: $300 for 20 small vials. Of Hoihoi Tatea. Or should I say, HORSE SEMEN.
* – By love it, I mean, “are actually willing to try it,” unlike men who are almost 100% opposed to drinking it. Smart guys.
