Perform This Way
I remember as a nerdy middle schooler with no friends, sitting in my room jamming out to Weird Al Yankovic and laughing to myself (this was also the time in my life when I put on audiobooks of Harry Potter to put me to sleep. Pathetic, right?), with such hits as “Eat It,” and “Amish Paradise,” Weird Al’s parodies were the gold standard by which all YouTube performances are held to.
This is his most recent parody; one that came out surrounded by tabloid drama (obviously, what was it going to do, NOT surrounded by tabloid drama? COME ON.). According to Weird Al, when he approached Lady Gaga about parodying her song “Born This Way,” she said no. This caused much uproar from the Weird Al fans (and probably just Gaga haters in general), who said she was being stuck up and should be proud to have the living legend imitate her. Later, Gaga claimed that it wasn’t her who said no, it was her publicist, and that she was more than pleased to have Weird Al parody her song, but of course no one believed her. Whatever, #firstworldproblems again.
Needless to say, it was finally released. And as an old school Yank fan, I’m… disappointed. I can NOT see myself jamming out to this on my Walkman while wearing a denim jacket. Oh well, he’s catering to a Bieber generation now. I’m not offended or anything. ::sniff::
