Utah Makes Acting Sexy Illegal
Add Utah to our list of states (along with Texas and Florida) that should be on lockdown. According to AP, it has taken laws against prostitution to a new extreme, claiming that even implying that you’d have sex for money, by such acts as “exposing” yourself or performing “lewd acts” is illegal.
Obviously, this is a strange step to take… why would Utah change the law in such an odd way? Turns out it’s all about the cops – according to SLC police chief Chris Burbank.
He said it would protect officers who were being asked by prostitutes to expose or touch themselves to prove they’re not police because making such requests as a precursor to offering sex for money is illegal under the new law.
“Officers were being put in a position that we’re not going to allow, so we took a different direction,” Burbank said.
Of course, this doesn’t just affect the cops – it also affects the way strip clubs, which are still perfectly legal, are run. Although the police force claim that no one who isn’t suspected of being a prostitute will be targeted for breaking the law, attorney for Andrew McCullough believes that this may not be the case. He claims that most strippers who act suggestively, for example by “touching their breasts,” aren’t soliciting sex.
The law is apparently in place to try and rid the streets of prostitution, especially underage women who are forced into the sex trade, which is obviously a very noble cause. We just hope the cops in Utah don’t get their panties in a wad and take it too literally.
GOOD LUCK, UTAH STRIPPERS!
