Less People are Getting Married
U-S-A! U-S-A! WE’RE NUMBER ONE! WE’RE NUMBER ONE!
Everyone take a sip of champagne cause WE DIIIIDD ITTTT! According to the US Census, 30% of Americans have never been married, the highest it’s been in 60 years, and in Americans aged 25 to 29, that number rose to 47%! Looks like people are finally coming around to our side! Sociologist Susan Brown, co-director of the National Center for Family & Marriage Research at Bowling Green State University, says she thinks the increase in never-marrieds is showing our collective realization that marriage isn’t mandatory.
“This speaks to a question researchers have been interested in — whether marriage delayed is going to lead to marriage foregone,” she says. “We know the age at first marriage is continuing to rise. Cohabitation is continuing to increase in popularity. Marriage is something that is more optional now and it’s also something increasingly people do later in the life course.”
We’ve been trying to say that for FOREVER and thought no one was listening, but I GUESS THEY WERE! You know what this means, right? It means more singles to go around!
Pat on the back, team… They like us, they really like us! ::tear::
